"More than Meets the Eye" part 3

Transformers Classic Episode #3

Written by George Arthur Bloom

"A gigantic illusion that will trick the Decepticons into coming to us, on our terms!"

As the crystal mines explode (see part 2), Optimus Prime tumbles down the side of the mountain.  He's injured, but functional.  The Autobots search the rubble until they uncover Sparkplug and Bumblebee.  Roller also managed to survive unscathed, much to Optimus's relief.

The Decepticons have survived too, and free themselves from the remains of the mines.  With the energon cubes from their previous raids still intact, they head for the rocket base--their final goal before they can return to Cybertron.

Ironhide, a grizzled old warrior tired of "sucking their vapor trails," flies after them.  Bluestreak accompanies him, trying to talk him out of it.  Ironhide won't listen and fires on the Decepticons.  Skywarp teleports out of formation and reappears behind the Autobots, shooting Ironhide down.

While Ironhide recovers, Hound proposes a new plan.  The Autobots allow their captive, Ravage (see part 1), to learn of the location of a new rocket base, then let him escape.  He reports this information to Megatron, but when the "Decepticons" arrive and the Autobots reveal their ruse, Megatron is already one step ahead.  His attack was only designed to keep the Autobots busy fighting Decepticon mannequins; the real Decepticons have already taken the fuel from the rocket base, and finished assembling their new space cruiser.

The Autobots launch a final assault, but the Decepticons escape during the battle.  Optimus Prime, borrowing Sideswipe's rocket pack, flies after the space cruiser, but the ship guns him down.  All hope seems lost.

Meanwhile, on board the space cruiser, Starscream makes another attempt on Megatron, who's been caught without his fusion cannon.  Just then the Autobot Mirage appears, having turned invisible and snuck on board the ship.  He sabotages the controls and bails out; the space cruiser tumbles helplessly into the ocean.

With the Decepticons vanquished, the governments of the world have agreed to give the Autobots the energy they need to return home and restore Cybertron's energy supplies.  But unknown to the Autobots, Megatron swims away from the sunken ship...
